Unreleased home footage from Queen Elizabeth II’s personal archives, including footage of the monarch’s young mother’s handprint and engagement ring, will be featured in a new documentary, the BBC reported on Sunday.
The Queen gave the network unprecedented access to hundreds of home movies made by her, her parents and her late husband Prince Philip as part of its upcoming 70th Platinum Jubilee anniversary.
The videos describe the Queen’s life from her childhood in a carriage in 1953 to her coronation.
A clip captured Philip’s first extended visit to Balmoral Castle in Scotland in 1946, before his engagement to Elizabeth was published. The images show the stunning Princess Elizabeth showing off her engagement ring in front of the camera.
Philip and Elizabeth were married in November 1947 and were married for 73 years, until Philip’s death last April, a few months before his 100th birthday.
Simon Young, the BBC’s history editor, said the network was honored to have access to the Queen’s personal film collection.
“This documentary is an extraordinary look at the deeply personal and rarely seen side of the royal family, and it is wonderful to share with the nation on its platinum anniversary,” he said.
