This weekend, the northern carnival was synonymous with Carnival of Los Tekis. Around 90,000 people were present for the four days at the Ciudad Cultural Property, next to National Route 9 in the town of San Salvador de Jujuy. This number was a record attendance for the festival and added to the other festivities that took place in Jujuy led to breaking all historical records for tourism, economic and commercial activity in the province.
The sheer scale was unsurprising since the festival lineup had options for the whole family. From Luciano Pereyra to Dillom, passing through emblematic groups of different genres such as Damas Gratis, Los Auténticos Decadentes, Kapanga or Miguel Mateos. Additionally, Los Tekis, as hosts, put on their show every night. For four days these artists made the northern public vibrate in an impressive setting of more than 50 meters in front and 20 meters high.
To these shows is added a high level of production with aerial shows like that of DJ Treekoo. He performed his set from the air in a structure supported by a crane above the audience, during the festival the same system supported the dancers who surprised the participants from the sky to provide a 360 experience. Acrobats, drags, little devils, live paintings and other interactive activities completed a quality cultural offer throughout the weekend.
But in the Carnival of Los Tekis there was also a place for traditions. It is that in the northern provinces to start the carnival it is first necessary to dig up the devil, in fact a small doll which imitates his face and symbolizes the sun, for the locals the one responsible for fertilizing the earth. This moment was lived with the No Somos Nada troupe at the Carnavalódromo, where family and friends were summoned to share in the traditional departure ceremony.
Thus, the Carnival of Los Tekis has positioned itself as the main musical and cultural attraction of northern Argentina and has set the bar very high for its next editions.
