Dina already in season 1 of The Last of Us ?
With episode 6 of The Last of Us, the series has made a slight leap in time. It’s been three months since Joel and Ellie met Henry and Sam. looking for Tommy (Joel’s brother). It is therefore in the middle of winter that we find them. And after asking directions from two elderly people isolated in the desert, they end up running into a new group of survivors. Luckily it is members of a community pretty quiet and where exactly Tommy is.

After a moving reunion between Joel and his brother, it’s time for a first discussion. And it is here that a first detail has not failed to attract the attention of viewers. While Joel and Ellie are eating, the rather suspicious girl shows up aggressive towards a teenager who observes him. Those who have played The last of us part II he saw it as a potential nod to the game.
Because it really could be Dina. And the link between the two works could be even stronger since, in a passage of the game, Ellie argues with Dina and remembers her arrival in Jackson. And Dina of her to tell her that at the time she just saw her hiding food for after her.
Neil Druckmann, the creator of the game and also co-showrunner of the series The Last of Ushe didn’t confirm that it’s really Dina, but at least he introduced himself thrilled with fan reactionsuggesting that this is indeed the case.
The memory of Sarah that hurts
In the continuation of episode 6 of The Last of UsJoel finds out his brother Tommy and his partner Maria are expecting a baby. Which is why Tommy doesn’t want to follow his brother on his journey. If Joel doesn’t like this rejection, it’s mostly because he cashes in on the fact that his brother has ahead of him the life Joel should have had. Think back to Sarah, his daughter who died in the first episode. And the series goes even further by showing us a young girl from behindwhose silhouette resembles that of Sarah.
The young woman then approaches her son, and Joel realizes that not only could he have seen his daughter grow up, but also become a grandfather. A tragic sequence that comes to accompany his growing anxiety. Because the main problem with this episode is Joel’s fear that he’s no longer strong enough to protect Ellie.
This heartbreaking sentence that comes from the game
It is for this reason that Joel asks his brother to take over for Ellie. Tommy being younger, he should be able to easily get Ellie to a suspicious Fireflies base. When Joel decides to warn Ellie, she has finally learned of Sarah’s death. She awkwardly tries to reassure Joel telling her it’s not Sarah. Of course it’s too much for Joel, who backs out and tells him “I’m not your father“.
The sequence is strong in the series and comes through directly from the video game. We find the same dialogues throughout this scene, but with a variation in the conclusion. Indeed, as we can see in the video below, Joel doesn’t slam the door before leaving. Originally, their argument is interrupted by Tommy who warns them of a seizure. An action sequence that is not used in the series.
For the series The Last of Us, so the writers preferred to present Jackson only as a place where a better future is possible. An already large and well organized place. A way to tighten the narrative on the relationship of the characters and a save the action for the end.
Episode 6 of The Last of Us ends like in the video game, of a bad injury of Joel. However, while many elements are similar, the series has greatly reduced the duo’s confrontation with a gang of looters. A freedom among others that is not harmful, on the contrary.
