The Carpenter sisters face Ghostface again
Ghostface is back in theaters with Scream VI. Following the franchise’s 2022 relaunch with He shouteddirectors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett were quick to offer audiences a direct sequel. Thus we find the Carpenter sisters, Sam (Melissa Barrera) and Tara (Jenna Ortega) survivors of another massacre in Woodsboro with their friends Mindy (Jasmin Savoy Brown) and Chad (Mason Gooding). All of them have decided to live in New York in the hope of leaving the tragedy they experienced behind.
Only that new murders are committed and the clues left seem to directly target the two sisters. With the help of Gale (Courteney Cox) and the return of Kirby (Hayden Panettiere, already present Scream 4), they will try to survive and find out who is the new ghost face.

While Scream VI received very enthusiastic reviews from the American press (a bit too much in our opinion, see our review), this in no way guaranteed the film’s success in theatres. But Paramount’s producers were able to quickly reassure themselves by seeing the numbers of the first exploitation weekend of the feature film. On American soil, this new opus has brought none other than $44.5 million in revenue. Which allows him to be a star at the box office in the United States, and above all to beat a franchise record.
Scream VI start strong
Indeed, as mentioned varietythe best opening weekend for a film so far He shouted it was held by the third with $34 million raised. Scream 3 (2000) it then closed with more than 161 million dollars raised worldwide, of which just over 89 million in the United States. A solid figure obtained with a budget of 40 million dollars, against the approximately 35 million for Scream VI.
To delve into the figures, remember this the first opus remains the franchise’s biggest hit in the United States ($103 million) and worldwide ($173 million) for a budget of 14 million. To see if Scream VI manages to surpass the legendary film by Wes Craven. Chris Aronson, president of national distribution at Paramount, is nonetheless delighted with these early returns:
It’s amazing to get that result after six films. We blew the boot off the last Scream. It never happens.
Scream VI it also got off to an encouraging start In France (in theaters March 8), which could help the film make a few million.
