Zack Snyder makes a mysterious announcement through Darkseid

A spoiled love story between DC and Zack Snyder

Between shivering lovers and eternal detractors, Zack Snyder is a director who has never left viewers indifferent. In fact, his first films (Army of the Dead, 300, Sucker Punch) set the tone for the very particular style of this former commercial director. Paradoxically, it is the same very flashy style attracting Warner in the 2010s. Thus, the latter, which holds the rights to adapt the DC comics, wants to breathe new life into its superheroes in the cinema. The goal was obviously to be able to compete with Marvel Studios which, at that time, were setting up its famous MCU. Zack Snyder therefore finds himself in charge of a universe to build and develop.

In 2013 and 2016, respectively, man of Steel AND Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice. Both films are very well received commercially… but not as much as Warners would like. Especially some critics criticize them for being a little too dark, compared to Marvel and its lighter and more mainstream films. These critics will get the better of Zack Snyder, as following his departure from the production of Justice League (for personal reasons) is replaced by Joss Whedon which transforms the film. All this with the tacit agreement of Warner.

In 2020, at the request of his fans (the famous #ReleaseTheSnyderCut), Zack Snyder returns to work with Zack Snyder’s Justice League, a film that totally respects what he had thought of the adventures of his superheroes. The film, which airs on HBO Max, it’s a huge success…but Warners doesn’t want to continue with Zack Snyder’s DCEU.

A date to remember

Today, both sides appear to have moved on. Indeed, on the one hand, Zack Snyder has launched a very particular connected universe on Netflix through the film Army of the Dead. On the other hand, Warner merged with Discovery, becoming Warner Bros. Discovery. DC feature films are now led by James Gunn and Peter Safran, who have decided to scrap Zack Snyder’s DCEU completely to reset the counters. However, Zack Snyder has posted a cryptic message on social media as a nod to his time at DC. In this video of a few seconds we can thus listen to Lord Darkseid (the main antagonist of the film Zack Snyder’s Justice League) urging her fans to save the date from April 28-30.

What will happen during this period? Will Zack Snyder announce an unlikely sequel to his DCEU? Nothing is less secure. In fact, these dates should be those of Snydercon, a convention that allows fans of the director to watch his productions online with him. Within this event, he should also bring back some speakers and talk about his future projects. Among them is of course his next film rebel moon, a space opera that will be released on Netflix on December 22, 2023.

A really impossible reconciliation?

Collider he would still have launched a tempting hypothesis: in fact, in his project to redesign DC films, Gunn and Safran wish to implement the Elseworlds strategy, something that would allow them to develop a connected DCU while developing projects that would have no narrative continuity. with the latter (as happens for the sagas Joker AND The Batman, For example). Under these circumstances, the events of Zack Snyder’s DC films have their place… and might as well continue.

However, this Snyderverse reset would be unlikely due to the release of a new one Justice League by the director could overshadow that of Gunn and Safran. Either way, the only thing to do is listen to Darkseid and be there from 28 to 30 April to know more.
