The Weeknd and Charlotte Cardin won multiple categories at the 2022 Juno Awards Opening Night Awards Ceremony held Saturday at the Metro Toronto Convention Center in Toronto. More than 40 awards were handed out at the celebration, which took place on Sunday, the day before the Juno Awards main event, and resembles the opening ceremony of the Grammys, where much of their cups are handed out. .

Dennis Jones, one of the most influential voices in the Canadian black entertainment community, was posthumously awarded the 2022 Walt Grealis Special Achievement Award. The award was received by his sons, Jesse and Jeremy.
Angelin Tet-Vaio and Anne Pornell hosted the celebration, which featured nominees Ruby Waters, Valley, Alison Russell, Roxanne Bruno and Jesse Gold, a small selection of Alan Slate Juno Masterclasses from 2020-21.
Simu Liu, box office star Shang-chi and the Legend of the Ten Seals, will host the 2022 Juno Awards, broadcast live on Sunday, May 15 at 8pm ET / 5pm PT. This will be Juno’s first ceremony in three years due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Sean Mendes will receive the Special International Achievement Award to honor his worldwide influence on music. Deborah Cox will be inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame. Cox, best known for her 1998 R&B hit “Nobody’s Supposed to be Here”, is the first black female artist to receive the honor.
