According to the synopsis, the production tells “the definitive story of the culture challenger David Johansennotorious 1970s glam punk vocalist new york dolls,” in addition to revealing “the enormous influence of Johansentranscending the walls of music as a window into the art and cultural evolution of New York City.”

The documentary was filmed in an intimate performance that took place in January 2020 at Carlyle Coffee, in New York. “I know David Johansen for decades, and his music has been a touchstone ever since I heard dolls when I was doing Mean Streets,” he said Scorsese (via NME). “Then and now, the music of david captures the energy and excitement of New York City. I often see him perform and over the years I have come to know the depth of his musical inspirations.”

After seeing his show at Carlyle Coffee, I knew I had to film it because it was extraordinary to see the evolution of his life and musical talent in such an intimate setting. For me, the show captured the true emotional potential of a live music experience.

In the United States, Personality Crisis: One Night Only will be released on the channel showtime on April 14, 2023. In addition to Scorsese, Sikelia Productions, Brian Glazer It is Ron Howard are executive producers. Watch the trailer below:

More about New York Dolls

American rock band, New York Dolls was created in 1971 in New York City. In addition to Johansen, the group had Brian Delaney, Steve Conte, Sylvain Sylvain and Sami Yaffa in the formation. They broke up permanently in 2011.
