Dead bodies have been piling up since the hitman nicknamed “Baba Yaga” decided to return to duty after the death of his puppy. Three movies and an attempt to create a mythology later, the hero played by Keanu Reeves continues to fight, survive and blow up the casualty counter in John Wick: Chapter 4.

While there’s a bounty on his head and it is always hunted down by the High Table, the Angel of Death tries to defeat the criminal organization. For this he has no choice but to leave New York for Osaka, before continuing his frenetic journey in Berlin and then ending it in Paris. Once in the French capital, the hero finds himself on the wrong side of the Etoile roundabout and climbs the steps of the Sacré-Coeur, eliminating everything that moves.

Offer a colossal action spectacle, director Chad Stahelski and his team put the silent warrior in increasingly insane situations. They also face him with increasingly formidable opponents. After Mark Dacascos, Yayan Ruhian and Cecep Arif Rahman, Keanu Reeves faces two other martial arts professionals: Donnie Yen and Scott Adkins.

Intense training for Keanu Reeves

To live up to these monstrous fighters, the star of Matrix he did not take his preparation lightly. Asked by RMC Sports on the techniques he worked on for the feature film, the actor explained:

Ju-jitsu for the ground and judo for standing combat. But if you combine them, you have MMA. (…) Some techniques derive from Brazilian ju-jitsu.

In a promotional featurette, Keanu Reeves says he trained for three months to be ready. The actor in particular he perfected his mastery of nunchakus and katana. He also trained more for car stunts, in part to get drifts in central Paris. In an interview given to Total movie last January, the actor said:

John Wick: Chapter 4 it’s the most action-packed film in the franchise, which says a lot. (…) It’s a great show. This is the hardest physical role of my career so far. They really trained me to master what is called the toolbox.

A toolbox that Keanu Reeves has been constantly enriching for 30 years, participating in films such as Breaking point, Speedthe saga Matrix, 47 Ronins OR Tai Chi man. Her words therefore speak volumes about the level of action of John Wick: Chapter 4.
