PETA objects The rings of power

PETA recently sentenced the death of a horse during the filming of the second season from the Series The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power. For years, the association has been asking the film and television industry to no longer use animals on set.

In a statement sent to varietyPETA accused the production of do not use digital or practical effects to represent horses. Association Vice President Lisa Lange added:

PETA therefore urges the creators of the series – and all other producers – not to use real horses anymore. If they can’t avoid using animals for their art, they should change careers, because nobody wants to see a spin-off whose theme is animal abuse.

Shortly before the press release of these statements went out, an Amazon Studios spokesperson confirmed the death of this horse during production, stating this Sunday, March 26, 2023:

The coach was not in costume and filming had not yet begun. A veterinarian and a representative of the American Humane Association were present at the time. The autopsy confirmed that the horse died of heart failure.

According to a source close to the production, more than 30 horses were employed that day. When the animal collapsed, it was next to about twenty horses.
