The unenthusiastic feedback on Asterix and Obelix: The Middle Kingdom
Blockbuster with a budget of 65 million euros, Asterix and Obelix: The Middle Kingdom era one of the most awaited films of this beginning of the year. Bringing together a prestigious cast led by Guillaume Canet, Gilles Lellouche, Marion Cotillard and Vincent Cassel, the feature film inspired by the comics by Albert Uderzo and René Goscinny has totaled 4.5 million admissions to date. The breakeven point of six million tickets sold was therefore not reached.

The film generated more than mixed returns, as the press were generally not enthusiastic about Guillaume Canet’s proposal. ON Allocated, even the “viewers” rating (1.9/5) is lower than the “press” rating (2.4/5). While Jérôme Seydoux had already reacted to the negative reviews, it is now up to Gilles Lellouche to go back to it.

During the promotion of I will always see your facesthe interpreter of Obélix – who earned twenty pounds for the role – spoke of the poor response in this regard Asterix and Obelix: The Middle Kingdom nearby Figaro. The actor specifically said:
The vehemence of the people in the film amazed me a lot. (…) The violence of the welcome he received seemed incredible to me. It’s a bit of a drama at that time.

The actor “doesn’t regret at all” having embarked on this adventure with Guillaume Canet, “a longtime friend”. The discovery of the murderous critics was therefore “not easy” for him. He added:
All movies are attackable and I feel the reasons why the movie doesn’t like it. But the personal attacks on a family film, which has nothing to do with fire, which has no other claim than to entertain as many people as possible, I don’t understand.
