Actress, who returns to comedy in ‘Mystery in the Mediterranean 2’, commented on the supposed lack of sensitivity of the series that launched her to success in the 1990s
For Jennifer Aniston, doing comedy today is “a little tricky”. The actress commented to AFP in Paris on the evolution of public sensibility over time and used Friendsfor example.
“There’s a whole generation of people, young people, who now look to Friends and they find it offensive,” he said. “There are things that were never intended and others that… well, we should have thought better of it – but I don’t think there was a sensitivity like there is today.”
The actress, who is back in the comedy genre with Mystery in the Mediterranean 2 beside Adam Sandlersaid that “comedy has evolved, movies have evolved”.

“Now it’s a little tricky because you have to be very cautious, which makes it more difficult for comedians, because the beauty of comedy is that we make fun of ourselves, of life.”
Friendswhich premiered in 1994, has been the target of reviews and criticism in recent years, for its moments of politically incorrect humor and the lack of representativeness of the cast.
In 2022, the co-creator of Friends, Marta Kauffman made a $4 million donation to African-American Studies as an apology for the series’ lack of representation. The sitcom has come under fire over the years for featuring predominantly white characters.
Also in 2022, Kauffman apologized once again over another sitcom blunder. This time, he talked about how he shouldn’t have referred to Chandler’s mother (Matthew Perry), who was a trans woman, calling him “dad.”
“Pronouns weren’t something I understood,” Kauffman said in a BBC interview due to air on 11 July. “So we didn’t refer to that character as ‘she.’ That was a mistake.”
Friends is one of the most successful sitcoms in history. The plot tells the story of six friends aged between 20 and 30, and their lives in New York. The series ran for ten seasons.
