Barbie : great fusion in perspective
After nights and weekends (2008), ladybug (2017) e Dr. March’s daughters (2019), American director Greta Gerwig is back with her fourth feature film : Barbie. An unexpected work that adapts the adventures of famous children’s toys to the big screen. The new trailer of Barbie highlights how BarbieLand works. A magical place where everyone has fun, made only of different versions of Barbie and Ken.
As for the casting, Warner, which distributes the film, has gone all out. Moreover Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling in the main roles, the rest of the cast is no less and is composed in particular by Issa Rae (president of Barbie), Kate McKinnon (gymnast of Barbie), the singer Dua Lipa (little mermaid of Barbie), Alexandra Shipp (writer of Barbie ), Emma Mackey (Barbie’s physicist), or Michael Cera, Helen Mirren and Simu Liu in another version of Ken.
An incredible trailer
This new trailer reveals more about the plot of Barbie. Based on these new images, Barbie (Margot Robbie) and Ken (Ryan Gosling), in the midst of an existential crisis, will try to leave BarbieLand to discover the world beyond the candy pink walls of their golden prison. The official synopsis reads as follows:
“In BarbieLand, you are a perfect being in a perfect world. Unless you’re in an existential crisis, or if you’re Ken.”
According to these unpublished images, Barbie partially should be inspired by excellence The Truman Show, in which Jim Carrey’s character gradually discovers that his existence is a lie and that he is actually a reality show character. The trailer in fact tells us that Ken and Barbie are being chased by the CEO of Mattel, camped by Will Ferrell. The latter will no doubt fight to prevent the duo from leaving BarbieLand and becoming independent.
Unsurprisingly, Greta Gerwig’s film addresses the issue of women’s place in society, interrogates our urban way of life, and most importantly, a pop opera, surprising and full of black humor. We meet July 19, 2023 to visit BarbieLand in all the best cinemas.
