Small : a project that transformed James Cromwell
In 1996, James Cromwell played farmer Arthur Hoggett Honey, the pig has become a shepherd. In Chris Noonan’s feature film, which the latter co-wrote with George Miller, he gradually takes a liking to the famous pig, after winning him over by guessing his exact weight. While his wife insists that he kill it to turn into a meal, Hoggett realizes that the animal has a knack for driving his sheep, with which he copes wonderfully.
A wonderful initiatory story that multiplies the visual prowess, giving the perfect illusion that the different species are able to speak, the film is also a beautiful story of friendship between this farmer and this pig, who meet again three years later in Babe, the pig in town. After filming the first part, which earned him an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actor, James Cromwell converts to veganism.
A fervent animal rights activist, he was arrested several times during demonstrations. He is also an honorary board member of PETA. As part of his investment for the animal rights association, the actor has taken an action that echoes Small.

Second ExpirationJames Cromwell has helped save a piglet fell off a truck on its way to a facility where it would be fattened for slaughter. In a statement, the actor said (via Allocated):
Having had the privilege of witnessing and experiencing the intelligence and curious personality of pigs during the filming of the film Small, I jumped at the opportunity to breathe new life into the life of a real little girl. Every pig deserves to live their life in a sanctuary, choosing when to play, where to feed and how to spend their time.
On Twitter, PETA shared a video in which James Cromwell recalls his beliefs and congrats to the adorable little pig that falls asleep via the screen. In the caption, the association wrote:
The Incredible James Cromwell Meets Babe For The First Time! James and PETA will take the piglet, which is named after his film Small critically acclaimed – towards his new life in Indraloka.
