Ghost : from romance to brawl

From its first minutes, Ghost it reveals most of its flaws, as well as its rare qualities, which are soon set aside. Chris Evans lends his features to Cole Turner, a big-hearted farmer who has an instant crush on Sadie Rhodes, played by Ana de Armas. Their attraction is mutual but after spending an idyllic day and night together, their involvement in this nascent relationship is not the same.

As Cole floods Sadie with text messages, she doesn’t reply. On a whim, he decides to visit her in London and is kidnapped. When he wakes up, Cole discovers that Sadie is one of the most formidable elements of the CIAtrying to prevent the sale of a biological weapon.

In an attempt to make us forget the visual poverty and the accumulation of affected dialogues, Ghost it relies on the chemistry between its two stars in its opening minutes, meeting afterward At short loggerheads AND The gray man. But as soon as romance gives way to brawl, Dexter Fletcher’s feature film (Eddie the Eagle, Rocket man) has almost nothing left to offer.

Ana de Armas and Chris Evans lost in thin air

To choose from Mr. Mrs. blacksmith AND Night daythe film rolls out its schedule without offering anything new, introducing an unspecified villain embodied by the ham Adrien Brody. Everything is absolutely insignificant Ghoststarting from the sets of action scenes seen in Iron man AND John Wick: Parabellum – to mention but two plays among many others which the play resembles, but less well.

The viewer also renounces to find the slightest coherence in the script, especially in the characterization of the characters. Sadie’s supposed stooge, Cole gradually establishes himself as an action hero capable of decimating seasoned mercenaries, having received no training and having spent most of his life on his parents’ farm. Which logically undermines the cynical attempt to deflect the codes of the genre. As for the quarrels and reconciliations between the two characters, they happen without warning and spoil the little consistency that their love story managed to find in the first minutes.

Like good slackers, the screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick develop a concept but abandon it along the way for a predictable plot, sprinkled with humor and irony to make it seem that everything is beautiful, when it’s just empty. Added to this is Dexter Fletcher’s inability to give any semblance of scale to his action scenes, despite the physical prowess of Ana de Armas, the director of Rocket man totally out of his element. You can however count on a series of cameos that will make more talk about the feature film itself, completely anecdotal.
