Hipgnosis Song Management acquired Justin Timberlake’s music catalog.
Financial details of the deal were not disclosed. Hipgnosis said Friday it has purchased 100 percent of Justin Timberlake’s copyright, ownership and financial interest in the writer-publisher’s public performances and a catalog of musical compositions written by Justin Timberlake. Hipgnosis buys catalogs of music publications or bets on them, which has been the area of many businesses in the music space. The company’s activities included transactions, including a 50% stake in Neil Young’s catalog, as well as hits performed by Rihanna and Shakira, among others.

Worldwide sales of Timberlake’s music currently exceed 150 million, including 88 million as a solo artist and 70 million with NSYNC, Hipgnosis said. The acquisition was made on behalf of Hipgnosis Songs Capital, a partnership between funds managed by Hipgnosis Song Management and a private equity firm, Blackstone.
Timberlake is represented by managers Rick Jorn, Josh Dumbling of LBI Entertainment and Johnny Wright of Wright Entertainment Group, as well as attorneys David Lande and Mitch Tenzer of Ziffren Brittenham LLP.
