From film noir to western

In an interview given to Empiredirector Ali Selim spoke about the influences behind it Secret invasion. The production wanted to develop an atmosphere between film noir and western, having in mind the classics The third man by Carol Reed e The Prisoner of the Desert by John Ford. Ali Selim explained:

We talked a lot about espionage and film noir classics, like The third man. As Nick Fury advances in storytelling, he leaves film noir to enter the western. He becomes the lone gunslinger who advances along the main road in search of bad guys to defeat. Let’s start from third man to John Wayne inside The Prisoner of the Desertand Sam naturally switches from one to the other.

Released in 1949, The third man chronicles the investigation conducted by the writer Holly Martins (Joseph Cotten) to track down the murderers of her friend Harry Lime (Orson Welles) in post-war Vienna. In The Prisoner of the Desert, released in 1956, Ethan (John Wayne) goes in search of the Comanches who have kidnapped his granddaughters. A hunt that will last several years.

As these two references and the trailer suggest, Secret invasion promises a dark, violent and puzzle-filled adventure for Nick Fury. The series is to be discovered from June 21 on Disney +.
