After ban, power banks are allowed at the Guns N’ Roses show in SP

After a previous ban, the Mercury Concerts allowed the entry of portable chargers, also known as powerbanks, during the show Guns N’ Roses in São Paulo. The band performs at Allianz Parque this Saturday, 25th.

A statement from the producer initially informs that the Military Police of the State of São Paulo “does not recommend the use of power bank-type electronic devices at large events”. The reason is the “potential risk to public safety, considering the possibility of using these objects as throwing instruments in situations of disturbance or breach of public order”.

However, the note adds:

“However, in a new consultation by Mercury with the Military Police, it was stated that the final decision on the release of this equipment rests with the event promoter, with any occurrences resulting from this authorization being their sole responsibility. In view of this, Mercury Concerts chose to allow power banks access to the event.”

On the other hand, the public should observe “the limit of dimensions equivalent to those of a cell phone, a measure recommended by the Military Police itself, in order to mitigate risks and ensure the integrity and comfort of the public present”. The statement states:

“We emphasize that each person is personally responsible for their actions, and Allianz Parque has numerous high-resolution cameras, capable of identifying any unwanted conduct, contrary to legislation or safety standards.”

Initial repercussion on networks

The ban, now reversed, had come to the attention of Celso Russomannowhich was also expressed through the networks. In video sent to Marina Caixetareporter for TV Recordthe journalist and law graduate — known for mediating consumer complaints — declared that there are no impediments provided for in Brazilian legislation that prevent power banks from entering shows.

Initially, according to the transcription of the Rolling Stone BrazilRussomanno stated:

“There is nothing in the law that prohibits consumers from taking their charger with their cell phone. Because there are chargers that are part of the cell phone: they are those cases that hug the cell phone, while others are independent. One way or another, Allianz Parque or the event organizer has to explain why they are preventing chargers from entering. And if the security response is not convincing, the consumer can, yes, bring their cell phone charger and charge your cell phone.”

The journalist then added:

“Especially because payments and things that need to be done and the presentation of the digital ticket, so it has to have a battery, it has to comply with the organizer’s requirements, so they cannot prevent the consumer from taking their charger.”

• Containers, glass cups or any other type of packaging, empty or containing drinks or soft drinks of any nature that, directly or indirectly, could cause injuries, except 1 (one) water bottle of up to 500ml, uncapped and made of flexible material;
• Glass, plastic or metal objects such as perfumes and cosmetics;
• Toxic substances;
• Fireworks or fireworks and flares;
• Flammable in general;
• Firearms or bladed weapons of any type;
• selfie sticks;
• Umbrellas of any size;
• Rolled paper, newspapers, magazines, flags and banners with poles;
• Motorcycle helmets and similar;
• Chains, belts and pendants;
• Food: only processed foods allowed, with the packaging originally sealed, such as snacks and cookies;
• Fruits: allowed only cut;
• Professional camcorders and cameras with interchangeable lenses;
• Clothes and accessories with sharp shapes and parts that could hurt or cause injuries will not be permitted;
• Vape (electronic cigarette) and juice (liquid for vape);
• Medicines will be allowed, as long as they are accompanied by a medical prescription;
• Football team shirts and flags;
• Backpacks: only backpacks in a standard size of 20x30cm are allowed;
• Any item that could be considered dangerous by event security.

Guns N’ Roses shows in Brazil

Guns N’ Roses hits five cities with their new tour “Because What You Want and What You Get Are Two Completely Different Things” (“Because what you want and what you will get are two completely different things”). After Florianópolis (visited on 21/10), they play in São Paulo (25/10, at Allianz Parque), Curitiba (28/10, at Pedreira Paulo Leminski), Cuiabá (31/10, at Arena Pantanal) and Brasília (02/11, at Arena BRB Mané Garrincha). The capital of Mato Grosso even receives them for the first time.

For all dates, the Raimundos will be the opening attraction. Formed today by Digão (voice and guitar), Marquim (guitar), Caio Cunha (battery) and Jean Moura (bass), the group released their ninth studio album, XXX, in May.

Guns N’ Roses haven’t been to Brazil since 2022, when they played at the Rock in Rio festival and went on a long solo tour. The new visit will be the first with the drummer Isaac Carpenter (former member of Awolnation, Loaded, Loudermilk and other projects), replacing Frank Ferrer, who left after 19 years of service.

After spending 2024 off the stage, GN’R recently returned with a tour of Asia, the Middle East and Europe.

In addition to Isaac Carpenter, Guns currently features Axl Rose (vocals), Slash (guitar), Richard Fortus (guitar), Duff McKagan (bass), Dizzy Reed (keyboards) and Melissa Reese (keyboards and synthesizers).
