The saga picks up the road with Fast and furious X
It seems increasingly clear that the great hours of the saga Fast & Furious I’m behind her. From the fantastic Fast and furious 5 (funny Rio heist movie), the franchise has probably never found such a level. There was of course pleasure in front of the sixth opera and its part in London. And a certain emotion in front of the seventh (marked by the death of Paul Walker) which allowed the film to be saved. But with Fast and Furious 8 AND 9the saga has definitely set aside its foundations.
The basis of Fast & Furiousit is precisely this family that is formed Dominic Toretto and his friends. Not bad little hooligans behind the wheel of a car and tirelessly hanging arounda barbecue with a Crown in hand.
And when it comes to taking action, it’s usually to save each other. But with the eighth work, ultra sophisticated gadgets took precedence over simple punches. Enemies have become terrorists eager to change the world order. And the Fast family It has become in a team of superheroes hired by the Agency to Save the World.
From Fast & Furiousso we went to Mission Impossible nice version. Therefore, even if the escalation of absurd and improbable actions has not weakened, it is what is around that has been the most disappointing for two films. However, with Fast and furious X, Louis Leterrier goes back to basics. Particularly with the action remaining on the ground, while taking on the aspect of its narration and the regressive spirit of the whole.
Jason Momoa, a real mad antagonist
Once is not customary, Fast and furious X part ofa story of revenge. In Fast and furious 7Deckard Shaw (Jason Statham) attacked Dom and his family to avenge his brother (Luke Evans), who was left in a coma at the end of F&F 6. Here we go back even further back. Up to the fifth work with Dante (Jason Momoa), son of Hernan Reyes (Joaquim de Almeida) eager to avenge his father’s death.
It would be too easy to just take Dom out. Dante’s plan is far more (deceptively) complicated. Before you finish with him, count make him suffer. And what better way to do that than to separate him from his pack and target his friends one after another? On paper, why not. Indeed, the actions of the antagonist are full of inconsistenciesfault of a scenario with holes and a plot that only aims at switch from one action scene to another.
Of the action that, for this kind of endless entertainmentis convincing. Less grueling if uneven and unmemorable, with its share of mediocre digital effects. Luckily, the ramshackle character of Dante save the day. An unexpected attitude of a psychopathic villain who takes nothing seriously and plays tricks in eccentric clothes. Like this unlikely passage where Jason Momoa, wearing two buns, does her nails in bathrobe addressing the corpses of his henchmen.
The actor is freewheeling In Fast and furious X and is probably the best idea of the film with John Cena. The latter, already so serious in the previous film, finds a comic spirit that goes well with the former wrestler. It actually delivers a much nicer version”from Uncle Jakob“.
Vin Diesel and others
Therefore, there is only Vin Diesel to push the film to a seriousness that we can no longer escape with the franchise. The actor, more swollen than ever, accompanied by an equally inflated Alan Ritchson (Agent Aimes), certainly helps to carry on the plot (focused on him), but at what price. The imbalance of tone it is all the more flagrant as the “hero” remains almost alone while the other groups are entitled to it to the most appreciable sequences. Both in dialogue and in action.
In particular two entertaining and well-paced hand-to-hand fights. One enters Michelle Rodriguez (Letty) and Charlize Theron (Cipher), the other between Sung Kang (Han) and Jason Statham (Deckard). The type of sequence unfortunately too little exploited. Just like the ones with Tyrese Gibson’s band (from Rome), more delusional and absurd than ever.
The breath of fresh air brought by each one leaves a certain frustration as we would have liked to see more Jason Statham, the complicity between Nathalie Emmanuel (Megan) and Ludacris (Tej), or even Jordana Brewster Mia – which has the right only to an anecdotal presence.
We can therefore try to reassure ourselves. Fast and furious X it’s only the first part of the ending of Fast & Furious (that could count two more films). Let’s hope that all these appreciable secondary characters still have time to delight us. Especially since other iconic characters will be returning. THE spiteful on them by the end of the film will have at least had their effect so that we can wait for the sequel.
