Netflix’s popular Regency-era drama Bridgerton he blessed us with dramatic and romantic stories, following a different Bridgerton each season. Season 2 focused on Jonathan Bailey’s Anthony and his love interest in him, Kate Sharma (Simone Ashley). While the season included fewer hot sex scenes than the first season with Daphne and Simon, there was one scene in particular that Bailey found turned out to be a little awkward, and what happened next made it even more awkward.
Jonathan Bailey talked about everything Bridgerton and the pressure to have a love affair the right way with the Los Angeles Times. The topic quickly shifted to whether the actor felt comfortable or embarrassed while filming certain scenes, and he talked about the infamous bathtub scene at the start of episode 5, when Anthony mulls over. the one he almost ran away from. Bailey told a funny but embarrassing story while filming the scene and laughed at the memory:
In fact, there was a camera in the water between my legs looking at me. So it was almost like being born in water. And I remember afterwards, I was so horrified at myself for the day we spent and so confused, because you can’t really explain it to anyone.
While shooting a bathroom scene could certainly be embarrassing, it was clearly even more embarrassing with the camera positioned in such a way that it is even difficult to explain. While it looks like Jonathan Bailey is a pro and may joke about it, he’s not the worst.
Bailey continued her story, mentioning meeting some friends after filming. However, he managed to forget to take off his modesty thong, which led to a surprise discovery while he was out in a pub:
It was just when the rules changed and you could go out and meet people, so that night I went to a pub and had a pint with my friends. When I got up to get round two, I said, “I’m a little pissed off.” And I realized that I still had my modest thong, because I was so traumatized and ran away from the set so fast that I hadn’t even taken off my bag. I still have it today.
Jonathan Bailey’s story simply shows what actors have to go through to make a scene perfect, even if it means going further. Hopefully Bailey’s friends haven’t given her a hard time, but it looks like he’d laugh with them.
The Bridgerton Star isn’t the only actor to have struggled with modest flip flops. In 2018, Dakota Johnson spoke about her plight fifty shades lighter, sharing how her modest thong needed extra strong adhesive because it peeled off during filming. He was practically covered in super glue. At least Bailey didn’t have that experience!
With Jonathan Bailey confirmed to return for season 3’s Bridgerton, seems to have overcome all the embarrassment. As the spotlight shifts to Colin Bridgerton and Penelope Featherington next season, let’s keep our fingers crossed that Bailey’s scenes are more exciting and fun, with fewer accidents!
If you want to see Jonathan Bailey and Anthony Bridgerton again, who wouldn’t? – be sure to stream the first two seasons of Bridgerton on Netflix with a subscription. Watching can help pass the time until Season 3 arrives!
