Disney’s first live Pinocchio trailer is gorgeous, but something is missing

Pinocchio was Walt Disney’s second animated film and one of his songs, “When You Wish Upon a Star”, became the company’s theme song, so it’s hardly surprising that the puppet took so long without wires to get the live restore treatment. The first trailer for the Disney + movie is here and it looks absolutely adorable, but strangely something is missing. Check it out above.

Except for a brief shot of Pinocchio’s arm and then his hat, which we see when we focus on Cynthia Erivo as the Blue Fairy, the main character is not seen in the trailer. . Tom Hanks has the only dialogue and even though we see a lot of Jiminy Cricket in CGI and even other puppets, there is no Pinocchio here.

It would be one thing in the movie that I really wanted to hide the character from us, keep us from seeing what this version of Pinocchio will look like and save him for a later trailer, but we did. We’ve seen the new Pinocchio in the stills, so we know he’s nearly identical to his original animated character.

Including Pinocchio in some artwork but not in the first trailer makes it seem like the reason the wooden boy is dropped from the trailer may be more technical than marketing. A few weeks ago, Marvel Studios released a trailer for She-Hulk: lawyer and many fans have criticized the state of CGI in this trailer, one wonders if maybe Pinocchio it may be in a similar state, so the decision was made not to show the puppet moving wirelessly at this time.

she-hulk will debut in mid-August and Pinocchio It will arrive on Disney + on September 8, a few weeks later, so chances are the CGI state, which almost certainly isn’t finished either way, will be in a similar state. Whatever the reason, there is still plenty of time to see this version of Pinocchio in all its glory. Maybe the next trailer will be a full version of “I’ve Got No Strings”.

While Pinocchio may not be there, what is there looks like a lot of fun. Pinocchio it has a fantastic cast and we can see a lot of them here. Tom Hanks is perfect as old Geppetto. Jiminy Cricket, who will be played by Joseph Gordon-Levitt, closely resembles a CGI version of the original hand-drawn concept. Cynthia Erivo is magnificent in the role of the blue fairy.

There is a lot we knew about Pinocchio before today, but one thing we didn’t know was when we were going to see the movie. Now, September 8 looks like a big day, as this trailer reveals it too Pinocchio Coming to Disney + is Disney + Day, which means there’s probably a lot more on the schedule. It’s hard to imagine him bigger or better than Tom Hanks in a Robert Zemeckis film based on one of Disney’s absolute classics.
