During production, 90% of the Toy Story 2 archive was deleted at Pixar
Pixar producer responsible for “saving” toy story 2iconic animation released on December 17, 1999 in Brazilian cinemas, Galyn Susman was fired from the studio. In addition, other employees also lost their jobs. The information is from Reuters.
As the press outlet reported, the animation studio laid off 75 employees in all in the mass layoff. It is worth remembering how she was not the only one to leave the company: Michael Agulnekvice president of worldwide advertising, and Angus MacLanedirector of Lightyear (2022) involved in other projects of the pixaralso lost jobs.
Supposedly, the reason for the mass dismissal happens due to the failure of public and critics of Lightyearspin off of Toy Story starring Chris Evans. The film had a budget of approximately US$200 million, and grossed US$226 million at the worldwide box office. In hollywoodnumbers like these represent losses for the studio (and not including the cost of marketing).
How did Galyn Susman save Toy Story 2?
During the production of toy story 2an employee of pixar, by accident, ran a command that deleted 90% of the movie from the company’s archives. However, luckily, Galyn Susman had a copy of the production at her house, meaning the company didn’t lose animation or have to start practically from scratch (not to mention the budget increase).
