Challengersthe new Luca Guadagnino
Luca Guadagnino keep spinning the new generation of actors. After Call me by your name (2017) with Timothée Chalamet, for which he had found Bones and all (2022), also worn by Taylor Russell, the director directed Zendaya For Challengers. The film is set in the world of tennis where Zendaya plays Tashi, a young player who is about to dominate in his discipline. Only a terrible injury will stop its ascent.
Challengers he will then show his young years and his romance with two friendsPatrick (Josh O’Connor) and Art (Mike Faist), also two tennis players. A love triangle they will be established in parallel with their sports career. Years later, trainer-turned Tashi will finally have made a choice between the two boys. These two who, in fact, will have to face each other again on the ground (and for Tashi?).
Zendaya in a three-way romance
The trailer for the movie has been released (video in an article). We hear once again Luca Guadagnino’s desire to offer something quite “sexy” – with the song S&M of Rihanna in the background. We also find it in Guadagnino’s way of filming Art and Patrick in a sauna, or the trio on the bed. For this element, the director’s proposal should not be as explicit as Nymphomaniac (2014) or Sex crimes (1998).

However, there will be the tennis part to explore. The trailer shows this dynamically, also adopting the format “point of view of the ball”. Nothing very original there or ultra realistic. We also think about the friendly The biggest win (2003), romantic comedy also in the world of tennis.
Challengers will be released on September 15 in US theaters. For France it will be a little more complicated. Since this is an MGM production, purchased in 2021 by Amazon, it will be necessary to contact the platform First video to find out about the movie (such as Michael Mann’s new movie, Ferrari). The release date has not been specified.
