Kundalini yoga: exercises

We have already said that there are many exercises (or kriyas) in kundalini yoga. We present only a few of them here.

Diaphragmatic breathing

It is the basic technique of Kundalini Yoga and is used in most exercises and meditations. To learn it, follow our instructions:

  1. Lie on your back, put one hand on your stomach.
  2. Inhale as you expand your belly. Feel your diaphragm drop.
  3. As you exhale, slowly inhale your stomach, emptying it of air. The diaphragm rises.
  4. Breathing should be very slow and measured. Inhale and exhale for about 10 seconds.

For the harmony of the body

This kundalini yoga kriya will help you focus and energize yourself, as well as put your body in order.

  1. Sit in the lotus position with your back straight. Breathe deeply through your nose for 3 minutes. Then hold your breath for a few seconds.
  2. Lift your heels off the floor and shift your body weight over them. Rest your hands on the floor between your legs. As you inhale, lift your pelvis, straighten your legs, and shift your weight to your toes. The hands stay on the ground.
  3. Exhale and return to the previous asana. Do 10 reps.

For the belly

Kundalini yoga with this exercise will help improve digestion and tone the stomach and abdominal organs.

  1. Lie on your back. Raise your right leg 90 degrees as you inhale, lower it as you exhale.
  2. Repeat the movement with the other leg. Perform leg changes for 10 minutes. Remember to breathe deeply.
  3. Stretch your arms out with palms facing each other. Raise both legs as you inhale, lower them as you exhale. Do 5 minutes.
  4. Pull your knees to your chest and relax your neck. This is a pose for a five-minute rest.
  5. In this position, while inhaling, spread your arms out to the sides, raising your legs 60 degrees off the floor. As you exhale, return to the previous pose. This Kundalini Yoga exercise lasts 15 minutes.
  6. Pull your left knee towards your chest, holding it with your hands. While inhaling, quickly raise your right leg to 90 degrees and lower it as you exhale. Do a minute, then switch legs.
  7. Stand up and raise your arms outstretched, supporting them on both sides of your head. As you exhale, lean forward and touch the floor. Inhale as you stand up. Make 3 minutes.
  8. Finish the exercise by meditating for 10 to 15 minutes.
