Save or diea film about everyday heroes
For his second feature film, four years later The SK1 dealwriter-director Frédéric Tellier accompanies us in 2018 in the world of firefightersfirefighters and everyday heroes. Save or dieworn by Pierre Niney and Anaïs Demoustier, it tells the story of Franck Pasquier (Pierre Niney), a young firefighter with a promising career.
One day, during an operation in a burning warehouse, he was badly burned. Waking up in the hospital burn ward, he discovers that yesa face melted in flames. For the young, very young father of twins, a long physical and psychological reconstruction will therefore begin. A savior who has become a victim will have to relearn how to live.

For this overwhelming role, Pierre Niney underwent very intense physical training. Goal: get the silhouette and musculature of a firefighter. A profession that demands great physical abilities and inexhaustible endurance. For the actor, naturally of slender morphology, it was therefore necessary to work tirelessly.
nine pounds of muscle
When it spins Save or die, Pierre Niney is already a recognized actor. He has already distinguished himself in various albums with, in 2015, a first consecration. That year, he received the Caesar for best actor for his performance in Yves Saint Laurent by Jalil Lespert, in which he plays the title role. But until then, both in the cinema and in the theatre, he had never physically changed so much. He explained to the press :
I wanted to branch out, change my silhouette and do what a Paris firefighter really does. To do this, there was nothing better than living with them in the barracks and being totally immersed in the fire brigade! So I participated in the famous plank climb, rope climbs, use of the equipment, daily training… I also worked with a sports coach and a nutritionist: I gained almost 9 kg of muscle for the first part of the movie.

This very significant increase in muscle mass notably allowed him to play unlined. the impressive sequence of the fire. This was staged with real flames and the actor had to carry more than 40 kg of material on his back. A transformation that, however, was only the first part of the job. Indeed, it was necessary then lose that muscle embody the character after his terrible accident.
It was a real physical challenge. I had to stop bodybuilding altogether and only drank juices for a month and a half! But for both parts of the film I wanted to make these transformations: change my body, my gait, the way I wear clothes… to be closer to the character.
Pierre Niney was honored by the firefighters
As he told us during our meeting on the occasion of the film’s release at the cinema (videos below), Pierre Niney was awarded a medal and the rank of sapper first class on an honorary basis at a ceremony which took place in the main courtyard of the Invalides, shortly before the release of Save or die At Cinema. A great recognition from professionals who have been touched and moved by the film, and in which many have recognized themselves.
