“The Grand Illusion” by Tom Cruise
Tom Cruise defies every projection, every expectation, every analysis. More than assistantswhose role is not only to help the magician but also to divert the audience’s attention”they capture this attention for themselves, they are no longer on the trajectory but become this trajectory.
Without going into the details of a very accomplished character development, Ilsa’s fate in Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part 1creepy “twin” to Ethan Hunt, it is the highest point of this acquisition. From there, the men of the story, Ethan Hunt in the lead, appear almost obsolete, less agile, fallible, more human and even more fun. This does not make the task easy for the antagonist played by Esai Morales, who sometimes lacks presence, but for whom it is promised that the second part will be the place of choice. A (small) collateral damage of a coherent, natural movement, of an implacable logic, an ingenious turning point in the unfolding of the film.
Humans versus machines
This new Mission Impossibleand comparison with Top Gun: nonconformist is still standing, addresses the audience as well as the film industry itself. It opens up a field of exploration, it demonstrates that green funds are not inevitable, that technology and human intelligence linked together can always go further. May we be entertained, enjoyed and moved crew At Cinema. The 2h46 of the film passes in the blink of an eye, despite its rather patient pacing. The impressive stunts are performed to maximum practical effect. Times are serious but tenderness and humor come to ease bodies and minds. The AI knows exactly what the characters are doing, where, how and when. So maybe, for everyone’s sake, they should pull the plug, separate. It’s not easy for anyone, but Ethan and Ilsa know, silently and movingly, that they are doomed for the sake of their loved ones to be lone heroes… This is how, most pleasant paradox, we’ve never felt so much like these characters love and care for each other. And, since we don’t rule out a nice paradox, it is ultimately the subtle confrontation of the characters with their inevitable end that leads this great story to the gates of immortality.
Now all that remains is to wait for the release of Mission: Impossible – The showdown part 2, in June 2024, to ensure that this first part, which is perfectly autonomous, is truly the first part of a masterpiece. In any case, it has all the qualities.
