A few weeks ago it was revealed that Dan Trachtenberg’s next film Prey it was actually a Predator movie through the back door, set in the distant past and featuring an opponent we had never seen before in a Predator movie: a young Comanche warrior trying to prove herself with her tribe. The idea of pitting an ill-equipped warrior against something like the Predator sounded incredible on paper, and it’s even better in the film’s first full trailer, which you can now watch below.
Now I listen to you. “Keep Arnold’s name out of your mouth.” But watch this trailer Prey and tell me lead actress Amber Midthunder, that many of you may recognize Legion , he’s not casting some serious Alan “Dutch” Schaefer vibes as he prepares to hunt down whatever threatens his tribe in this story. His line at the end of the “Whatever, I Can Kill Him” music video drips with a Schwarzenegger-level confidence, and when he says it, I believe him!
Plus, there’s this awesome shot of her covering her body in mud to hide from the Predator, and it’s those natural survival instincts present in the character of Amber Midthunder that already do. Prey it seems to me a worthy addition Predator Canyon.
There are images in this trailer that I wish were saved for the film itself. The whole bear sequence is amazing, and when it ends, it finally reveals the fact that this is a Predator movie and Amber’s character Naru will face a much bigger threat, as powerful as the terrifying bear he is. he was … getting closer to her. And then I came out with a preview that was the bear sequence that’s in the trailer. And for that, to be the revelation of what this film is about. So I’m happy to see now that we have a trailer that contains this footage. In a way it presents the story that way. I’m thrilled to see how our Predator looks a little more “creature-like”, a little more animal-like, and goes back to the physics of the former and how it interacts with its environment. And they also have the first feeling that our design is a little different.
We are sure that we will see even more of the updated or simplified version of this Predator once. Prey arrives on Hulu on August 5th.
