Ridley Scott, father ofAlien AND Blade Runner
It didn’t take long Ridley Scott for him to deliver two of the best films of his career. Indeed, in 1979 and 1982, it came out in quick succession Alien, the eighth passenger AND Blade Runner. Or the director’s second and third feature films. Two very different sci-fi films that are ingrained in popular culture (mostly for Alien).
As a reminder, after the first AlienRidley Scott let other directors develop the universe. Alien became a saga with three direct sequels directed by James Cameron (1986), David Fincher (1992) and Jean-Pierre Jeunet (1997). It wasn’t until 2012 that the director returned to the roots of the xenomorph with Prometheusbefore performing Alien: Covenant (2017).
Self Alien has become an important saga, Blade Runnerinspired by the novel Do androids dream of electric sheep? by Philip K. Dick, was also entitled to derivative works. Sure, there was a sequel. blade guide 2049directed by Denis Villeneuve and released in 2017. But also animated shorts, the animated series Blade Runner – Black Lotus (2021), while a new series, Blade Runner 2099is in preparation for First video.

It was therefore the same year, just five months apart, that these two universes expanded into cinema. Alien: Covenant on the one hand and blade guide 2049 the other. But Ridley Scott could only realize thisAlien. However, as of 2011, a sequel had been proposed that he would direct.
But the years went by and when the project really came to fruition, Ridley Scott already was occupied by Alien: Covenant. A situation that the director still seems to repent. At least that’s what she said in a magazine interview. Empire (through Expiration).

This resentment of Ridley Scott blade guide 2049 is added to the criticisms he had made of the film after its box office failure. At the end of 2017, the director had estimated that there really was half an hour too long and that the feature film was too slow… To “console himself”, Ridley Scott will now develop the series Blade Runner 2099 as a producer.
