Deauville 2023: nice surprises despite the absence of American stars
The strike that has been shaking Hollywood for several weeks has logically had an impact on the 49th edition of the Deauville American Film Festival. Although Natalie Portman, Jude Law and Peter Dinklage were absent due to these events, this unmissable event was held from September 1-10, 2023. Highlights of the festival included a tribute to Jerry Schatzberg, a conversation with Carole Bouquet or even the presentation of the New Hollywood Award to Emilia Clarke.

As for the films, viewers were in for some nice surprises. Profoundly different feature films, ranging from comedy to noir to drama, which reveal the talent of young filmmakers to follow closely such as Aitch Alberto (Aristotle and Dante discover the secrets of the universe) and Celine Song (Past lives).

The Festival was also an opportunity to discover beautiful science fiction comedy The generation of podsworn by Emilia Clarke, She came to me, Fantasy dance OR May December, Todd Haynes’ strange and thrilling melodrama starring Julianne Moore and Natalie Portman. Chaired by Guillaume Canet, the jury also included Marina Hands, Stéphane Bak, Alexandre Aja, Anne Berest, Laure de Clermont-Tonnerre, Léa Mysius, Rebecca Marder and Maxime Nucci among its members.
