The cast of the classic 90s sitcom Friends delighted fans last year when they first reunited on screen since the 2004 series finale in Friends: meeting. There were some really fun moments for the fans, including a fashion show with celebrities like Cara Delevingne recreating some unforgettable moments in the changing rooms and Lady Gaga joins Lisa Kudrow to sing “Smelly Cat”. But let’s go back to this set even after 17 years. it gave an emotional charge to all six actors and Jennifer Aniston explained what was “so scary” about the experience.
Jennifer Aniston spoke to Sebastian Stan at Variety of “Actors on Actors,” in which he discussed reunions with Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, David Schwimmer, Matt LeBlanc and Matthew Perry on camera for the first time since Friends stopped broadcasting after ten seasons. When he Pam and Tommy The actor asked Aniston what it was like to see everyone back on stage, he said it was more emotional than they expected:
I don’t know if we expected it to hit us as hard as it did in the emotional gut. We had the idea that it would be a lot of fun – we went back to the scenarios exactly as they were. And literally every corner of a shelf was the same. It was so scary. But each of us, we walked in, was like, ‘Oh!’ … It was 2004 when it ended. And we were different. We were so small. Our lives were ahead of us. And many things have changed. We had pink glasses. And then it was like, ‘It’s actually a lot heavier than I thought.’
It must have been unpleasant to return to this setting so preserved over time, despite all the actors having had other experiences, good and bad, in the following years. Jennifer Aniston once spoke of being so emotional that he had to get out and like the special made her “a little melancholy” thinking how young and optimistic they were when the show ended in 2004. Despite everything, she said: “I wouldn’t change a thing”:
Whenever we all get together, it’s as if time hasn’t passed. Basically we grew up together and taught each other a lot. We are each other’s scapegoat because the world was happening. We exploded and that kind of notoriety was sudden. And we were in these four walls doing the show, and this madness is happening. And thank God we met, because we couldn’t really talk about it outside. It was before social media, so we still had some common sense.
This nostalgic look back on the past follows Jennifer Aniston’s recent comments Ellen De Generes’ show as a guest in the final episode. Rachel Green’s actress had been Ellen DeGeneres’ first interview 19 seasons ago and makes frequent appearances on the show. The guest asked the actress for advice on how to deal with the end of such an important moment in her life, Aniston recalled with joy that with the end of Friends also came the end of her marriage to Brad Pitt from what he had to go through at the start of therapy.
Friends: meeting perhaps more than the actors were prepared, and even Courteney Cox said it was unlikely they would do it again . It’s a real shame for diehard fans, but at least we can still watch all 10 seasons in syndication and on HBO Max. Be sure to check out some of the others. best shows on HBO Max while you are there!
