The actress and presenter is accused of “moral violation”
Drew Barrymore announced that he would resume his talk show and air it again next Monday (18). The announcement sparked outrage in Writers Guild (WGA) due to possible strike violations in Hollywood, despite the Actors Union (SAG-AFTRA) state that the program presented by Barrymore is not in violation of the strike rules because of its contract with the Network Television Code, and that there is no “moral violation”, as was said by Variety.
According to the strike contract, the presenter is not committing an infraction by resuming her program, as the contract allows variety show presenters to perform their role. The program’s writers are members of the WGAso according to the strike rules, they could not work on the new season of the program.
Drew Barrymore Show is facing accusations for ‘forcing’ its employees to violate the strike by hiring screenwriters from outside the union or going without screenwriters.
The recording of the first episode of the return of Drew Barrymore Show took place this Monday (11) and generated turmoil, with several strikers outside the studio trying to prevent the recording and the expulsion of two members of the audience who were wearing WGA badges in protest. One of them, Dominic Turiczek, claims to have been the target of verbal aggression by the talk show team.
