Halloween: the boogeyman never dies
The saga Halloween has stood the test of time returning to cinema screens several times, with his iconic character, the terrible (and indestructible) Michael Myers. Since the first movie The night of the masks directed by John Carpenter in 1978, Halloween not only revolutionized the horror genre, but it also established Michael Myers as one of the most iconic serial killers in cinematic history.
The original plot featured Michael Myers as a young boy who, on Halloween night, commits a brutal and inexplicable murder. This first iteration was followed by numerous sequels, prequels, remakes and even a recent trilogy which returned to the roots of the franchise.
Over the years, several directors have tackled the legend of Michael Myers, each bringing their own vision and twist to this horror icon. Notable directors include Rob Zombie, who took the reins of the franchise with his films released in 2007 and 2009. Zombie brought a darker, more psychological approach to Michael Myers’ storyimmersing ourselves in the troubled origins of the serial killer and exploring the most disturbing aspects of his personality.
Most recently, David Gordon Green directed a new trilogy that began in 2018 with Halloweenfollowed byHalloween kills in 2021 andHalloween ends in 2022. Green has chosen to make a clean sweep of all the previous sequels in the saga, picking up the story directly after the events of the original 1978 film. His vision was acclaimed by fans for its faithfulness to the atmosphere and for the way in which it brought the legend Michael Myers back to life, even if the last part, less focused on the latter, disappointed some of the public.
What will become of the saga? Fans’ concerns are growing
Halloween ends marked the (true) end of the confrontation between Michael Myers and Laurie Strode. However, the famous masked killer could return to haunt our screens very soon. In fact, as reported by the specialized site Bloody disgustingMiramax, currently owner of the rights to the saga, would be at the center of a real battle for the reacquisition of the rights. In other words: Michael Myers could return to film and television very soon. Miramax would both be interested in purchasing the rights, for cinema, but also for television, and therefore for streaming platforms…
It will therefore be up to the studio to decide where the rights to the saga will go. News that does not fail to worry fans of the saga, who thought that the Michael Myers chapter had definitively closed with David Gordon Green’s trilogy and who did not want to see this iconic horror figure fall into bad hands…
