Authorities dropped criminal charges against rapper Roddy Ritchie in New York on Saturday after he was arrested with a firearm, forcing him to miss a scheduled concert.
Ritchie, 23, and two other men were arrested after police said a security guard working at a checkpoint in Queens, near Citi Field, noticed a firearm in the car he was driving.
Authorities soon dropped the charges against the Grammy winner and one of the other men in the car, Carlos Collins, 57, of Eastchester, New York.
Asked on Monday what happened in Ritchie’s case, the Queens District Attorney’s Office said it had no information to share. The message was left with the NYPD with a request for comment.
A court official told the New York Daily News on Sunday that the cases against Ritchie, whose real name is Rodrigo Moore and Collins, have been dropped. None of the cases were listed in public court.
Prosecutors are working on a case against a third man who said a security guard was sitting in the front passenger seat where a gun was found.
Michael Figueroa, 46, of Brooklyn, was convicted on Sunday of possession of a firearm.
As of Monday, Figueroa had not posted bail and was in the Rikers Island prison complex in New York. The message was left with Figueroa’s lawyer with a request for comment.
Prosecutors said a security guard told police he saw Figueroa remove the item from his waistband and reach for his feet after stopping the car.
The guard said he searched the car and found a loaded gun under the front seat mat, prosecutors said.
Ritchie’s arrest barred him from attending the Governors Ball music festival at Citi Field on Saturday, but he returned to the stage Sunday at the Hot 97 Summer Jam concert at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
There, he led an apparent outcry against the NYPD, according to social media posts. He later posted a profane response on Twitter about his arrest. Messages requesting comment were left on Monday with booking agency Ritchie and the label.
Originally from Compton, California, near Los Angeles, Rich gained popularity with the single “Die Young”. He won a Grammy in 2020 for the song “Racks in the Middle” by Nipsi Husley.
