Through social networks, the Netflix released the trailer showing the release date of the new episodes: August 19, 2022. The Cuphead Show! arrived in the streaming catalog in February this year and was developed by Dave Wasson, who also signs the script alongside Deeki Deke, Clay Morrow, Adam Paloian and Cosmo Segurson.
game based Cuphead, 2017, the 1930s-inspired animation follows the adventures of the brothers Cupcake and mug, who face the Devil and other creatures as they roam the landscapes of the Tinteiro Islands.
Why does a Netflix cartoon look so old if it’s new?
The series has an art style that appears to have been developed around the 1930s. Despite debuting in 2022 on streaming, the production’s old-fashioned aesthetic is completely intentional.
Due to the art and character design, The Cuphead Show! It appears to be a much older production than it actually is. Like video games, animation is intended to reference a specific aesthetic, period, and language — and known to many.
chad and Jared Moldenhauer, responsible for both the show and the video game, created the productions at an independent game development studio. Both grew up loving the hand-crafted animations by Walt Disney Studios and Fleischer Studios – and were inspired by their aesthetics to create cuphead and The Cuphead Show!.
While the game used hand-drawn animation to pay homage to the famous studios, the series from Netflix featured the mixture of 2D and 3D animation. The change probably occurred as a strategy to avoid high costs and save time.
