Angelina Jolie unrecognizable in her new film

Angelina Jolie finally returns

After having marked world cinema for almost two decades, Angelina Jolie, one of Hollywood’s most emblematic actresses, had remained discreet in recent years and had not appeared on our screens since. The Eternals. In a recent interview, Jolie discussed the reasons for this breakup, highlighting them the need to find balance in your life and to dedicate themselves to less demanding projects in terms of filming.

While the star didn’t directly tie the decision to her personal life, it’s hard not to notice the coincidence with the tumultuous end of her marriage to Brad Pitt in 2016. But the good news for fans is that the actress is ready to make it happen return. In fact, she just started filming Marya biopic about the legendary opera singer Maria Callas, directed by Pablo Larrain.

A surprising first look

The filming of Mary with Angelina Jolie it has just begun. It will take place over eight weeks between Paris, Budapest, Milan and Greece. Since it is an independent production, she is not affected by the actors’ strike, which currently paralyzes Hollywood.

As filming began, two photos of the actress in the role of Maria Callas were revealed. One shows her in her personal life and the other in her stage dress.

The feature film written by Steven Knight will explore the life of the legendary and controversial singer, described as the original diva. Based on true events, the film will chronicle the tumultuous life of the greatest opera singer in the worldand will return to these last days, in the 70s in Paris.

Considering that Pablo Larrain’s two previous biopics dedicated to historical female figures (Jackie Kennedy in Jackie and Lady Diana inside Spencer) took place in a short period, it is possible that Maria is set only in the singer’s last days, and that the latter dives back into her life, through flashbacks.

The rest of the cast includes Pierfrancesco Favino, Alba Rohrwacher, Haluk Bilginer, Kodi Smit-McPhee and Valeria Golino.

In a press release, director Pablo Larrain praised Angelina Jolie’s preparation:

I am incredibly excited to begin production on “Maria,” which I hope will introduce the extraordinary life and work of Maria Callas to audiences around the world, thanks to Steven Knight’s magnificent script, the work of the entire cast and crew, and above all thanks to Angelina’s brilliant work and extraordinary preparation
