iCarly, How I Met Your Father and Queer as Folk are some of the productions canceled too soon

If a series is successful, it is now common to expect that, some time after it ends, it will receive a new version, whether in a derivative series or in a reboot, which restarts the story within the same universe, as was the case with productions such as Friends, Breaking Bad, game of Thrones, Pretty Little Liars, That 70s’ Show It is gossip Girl.

Even with fans’ fears that the new feature will end up ruining the original, many of them are as good or even better, in some cases, but they are still short-lived. In this list, the Rolling Stone Brazilin partnership with the CinemaBuzz, recalls five series reboots, which had their merits, but were canceled too soon. Check out:

Icarly

One of Nickelodeon’s biggest hits, Icarly returned to air in 2021, almost ten years after the original series, but was canceled after its third season. In addition to bringing back our favorite digital influencer, the reboot of Icarly it also featured an evolved version of the characters, showing that the series had grown along with its audience.

So, we had Carly (Miranda Cosgrove) and her friends dealing not only with issues related to the girl’s successful channel, but also with adult life problems, such as frustrations, relationships and even a stepdaughter with a great personality, as was the case with Freddie (Nathan Kress). All of this, of course, with great humor. Too bad it lasted so short.

How I Met Your Father

Another reboot that deserved much more is How I Met Your Father. Based on the series How I Met Your Motherwhich aired for nine seasons, the production told the story of SophieInterpreted by Hillary Duffand your search for the love of your life at a time when dating apps are so popular.

How I Met Your Father debuted in its infancy, following the success of the original series, but soon proved to be as fun as How I Met Your Mother. Furthermore, the reboot corrected some errors from the original version, such as the lack of diversity and, mainly, the mystery about the love of Sophieplacing some possibilities for the character and not how it happened in How I Met Your Motherwhich ended up having one of the most disappointing endings in series history.

Veronica Mars

Veronica Mars has some of the most passionate fans in pop culture, but that didn’t stop the series from being canceled in 2007 due to lack of ratings. Seven years later, these same fans crowdfunded online to get a film released. Veronica Mars role, which ended up happening and also guaranteed a new season for the series.

However, despite the achievement, the reboot of the series, which also serves as a fourth season of the original, brought such a sad ending that fans even gave up insisting on new episodes of Veronica Mars. It’s better to leave things as they are than to make things worse, right?

Queer as Folk

Long before the LGBTQIAPN+ community was known by this acronym, Queer as Folk It was already a huge success showing the lives, loves, friendships and ambitions of a group of gay men and women.

In 2022, the series took on new life, showing how the community had changed and now encompassed many more sexualities and identities than before. The reboot of Queer as Folk It still brought a huge emotional charge to its first episodes, reproducing the massacre at the Pulse nightclub in the United States, but unfortunately the production didn’t make it past its first season and was cancelled.

Lizzie McGuire

If all the series on this list had a chance to prove themselves, we can’t say the same about our latest reboot, Lizzie McGuire. Commissioned back in the early days of Disney+, the production promised to rescue the character that gave fame to Hillary Duff and show what she would look like in her early 30s.

A preview was released, but the series was canceled before it even aired. The first problems began to arise when the creator of the original series, Terri Minskydecided to abandon production.

Soon, rumors arose that Disney wanted to do something closer to the original series, for children, while Minsky wanted to do something more adult and compatible with the reality of the character and the audience that grew up with her. In the end, the reboot of Lizzie McGuire it was canceled and we never had the opportunity to see what the series would become.
