Shadowbox Studios, formerly Blackhall Studios, which plans to provide studio space amid the global crisis, will announce plans on Tuesday to double its Atlanta facility. Plans include corporate rebranding.
The $500 million expansion will add 1.2 million square feet and 22 new soundstages to Shadowbox Atlanta, making it one of the largest manufacturing facilities in Georgia and the southern United States. Private equity firm Silver Lake will also invest in expanding its presence in studios in London and Los Angeles.
Shadowbox currently operates an 850,000 square foot Atlanta complex with nine sound studios that has been home to blockbusters such as Jumanji: The Next Level Jungle Cruise s Godzilla: King of the Monsters. The facility will exceed two million square feet and will have 31 sound scenes upon completion of the expansion.
The Georgia Film and Television Fiscal Promotion Program has turned the state into a major manufacturing hub since its inception in 2006. Black Panther: Vakanda Forever, Creed III s undead talesin Georgia.
“Consumer demand for premium film and TV content, along with an increasing number of producers, has increased demand for soundstage capabilities,” said Lee Whitlinger, CEO of Silver Lake, who joined the Board of Directors. “It’s a long way to go for growth across the industry, and we look forward to partnering with Shadowbox to expand the company’s service offerings and provide premium sound stage facilities in top global manufacturing markets.”
Upon completion of the expansion, Shadowbox will have 68 soundstages and over 4.2 million square feet of leased space, making it one of the largest studio operators in the country.
“Supporting large-scale production with best-in-class service is Shadowbox’s bread and butter,” said Adam Fisher, director of the studio. “From the company’s origins as a single-site operator, we’ve worked with local communities in Atlanta, London and Los Angeles to create more space for content creators to express themselves, as well as providing hundreds of jobs in local markets. ”.
Shadowbox is currently building a 1.3 million square foot studio campus in Santa Clarita. It recently completed the initial phase of development for its London facility, which is expected to be around one million square feet.
Shadowbox, formerly Blackhall Studios, is also getting a rebrand as part of its investment. Studio head Peter Rumbold said the new name represents “a company that is moving forward as a symbol of the physical and imaginative space supported by our platform.”
He added, “Our latest technologies physically exist as ‘shadow boxes’ where our customers can carry out their artistic endeavors.”
Silver Lake will partner with existing investor Commonwealth Asset Management, which remains the majority shareholder, for the investment.
