The Crown is coming to an end
Since its launch in 2016, The crown has established itself as one of Netflix’s flagship series, retracing it brilliantly Significant events in the life of Queen Elizabeth II. With numerous awards under its belt, including 21 Emmy Awards and seven Golden Globes, the series has captured the hearts of viewers.
Season 6, which will be the last, will be divided into two parts: the first will arrive on November 16 (for episodes 1 to 4) and the second on December 14 (for episodes 5 to 10). It’s in this final season that one of the most important events of the 20th century will be addressed: the accidental death of Lady Diana (which will have a prominent place in the series).
Already controversy for Netflix?
While the sixth season of The crown it will only be available next month, on Daily email has already had access to the episodes and reports a scene which should shock the English royal familyand the Anglo-Saxon public. In the latter, in fact, Charles (Dominic West) goes to the morgue to see the remains of the princess (played by Elizabeth Debicki), who appears to him in the form of a ghost.
In this emotional moment, she would have a posthumous reconciliation with Prince Charles, expressing her deep feelings and remembering their tumultuous past. In particular, she would admit to him that she loves him, but that it will be “easier for everyone now that she is no longer here.”
Although this depiction is defended by a Netflix source as a “visualization of the characters’ inner thoughts rather than a supernatural manifestation”, it still remains risky. Voices within the royals have expressed their concernssuggesting that such artistic choices could be perceived as insensitive, turning painful memories into mere sensationalism.
The series, despite its resounding success, has often been criticized for its liberties with historical reality. Faced with this criticism, Netflix even introduced a warning to remind people of the dramatized nature of the series.
