A return to origins with Alien: Romulus?
We have been waiting a long time the saga Alien get back in strength. After four films released in 1979, 1986, 1992 and 1997, Ridley Scott (the director of the first Alien) returned to this universe with slightly different films. First of all Prometheus (2012), a sort of prequel to the saga but which differs from it in several elements. Then Alien: Covenant (2017)Following Prometheus. Even if we find the famous xenomorph in the latter, there was still a certain flavor of unfinished business.
So let’s hope the next film Alien: Romulusdirected by Fede Alvarez ( evil Dead, Don’t Breathe: The House of Darkness AND Millenium: What doesn’t kill me), will return to the atmosphere of the first works. The latest news is that the feature film will still be set before the first Alien, but will feature “a group of young people in a distant world”. The latter will therefore find themselves “compared with the most terrifying life form in the universe”.
Ridley Scott finds the film “damn good“
On paper, this is tempting. Especially when we know the work of Fede Álvarez and his passion for horror. And to reassure us even more, nothing better Ridley Scott’s opinion about the film. During DGA Latin American Summit 2023Fede Álvarez announced that he had done so assembly finished of his Alien: Romulus and who then had to show his work to boss Ridley Scott, still present as producer. Pretty reassuring when we know Ridley Scott isn’t no one who minces words when he doesn’t like a film related to one of his works (as with Blade Runner 2049). We will still wait to see the final result to judge. Let’s remember thisAlien: Romulus will be released in theaters on August 14, 2024. The cast includes Isabela Merced (Dora and the Lost City, Transformers: The Last Knight), Cailee Spaeny (Easttown Mare), Archie Renaux (Morbio), Spike Fearn (After sun), David Jonsson (Industry) and Aileen Wu.
