After 365 days
It was in the midst of the Covid pandemic that Netflix released 365 daysPolish erotic film style (but in English). Fifty Shades of Gray and more difficult. It wasn’t then because of its qualities (it has none) that the feature film had become a phenomenonbut good for his sex scenes closer to the pornographic industry than to traditional cinema.
Added to this was a controversy ever since 365 days phases a kidnapped young woman by a mobster who wants her to fall in love with him. Given the boy’s attractive appearance and his wealth (we see him in a villa, on a yacht, etc.), the young woman, in addition to being very sexually inclined, ends up allowing herself to be seduced. Morally more than limited, so a petition was asked the removal of the film from Netflix. Unsuccessful, but two sequels were released instead.

Having found a good opportunity, Netflix continued to propose in the following years films with erotic content and minimal qualities. However, before the arrival of October 25, 2023 ofWaiting to be betrayedwe hadn’t seen so many similarities with 365 days in a production on the streaming platform. Obviously for the worse, and not for the better.
Netflix’s erotic trends
In the erotic romance genre there have been some Through my windowcloser to the saga After and probably the film that succeeds best in this genre. It’s the same with series Sex/Life, A prying eye OR Obsessions. Because in all these productions, though gender is highlightedremains more honest and satisfying the one inside 365 days AND Waiting to be betrayed.
In the Brazilian erotic thriller, this time it is about a woman (Babi) who, the day before her wedding, discovers that her boyfriend has been cheating on her for years. Following this betrayal, she turns to a judge (Marco), whom she met following an investigation against her ex-partner’s company. Love at first sight is therefore immediate and It doesn’t take long for them to fuck in all positions and in all rooms of Marco’s house.

Contrary to 365 days, there is nothing to complain about here on the moral aspect. We still find commonalities with, once again, a dark brunette with a troubled pasta pseudo-investigation with expected revelations, laughable dialogues like “If you want to waste your saliva, do it differently“, and naturally sex scenes that are not modest.
Waiting to be betrayed : level zero of sex scenes
Completely bare chest, muscular buttocks of the hunk, everything is there to attract the audience. Waiting to be betrayed it is obviously far from the soft sex scenes of many American productions, where the couple always manages to perfectly hide the slightest nudity with a sheet. However, we are not close to a European cinema, even a French one, that is more realist and not afraid show sex in a crude way without hiding anything. Let’s think, for example, about Adele ‘s life OR Love.
Finally the sex scenesWaiting to be betrayed nor do they fall into the category of primarily cinematic erotic films such as Primitive instinct. For it to be said, the Netflix film does not address a cinematic aestheticbut rather erotic television filmto which the clip images are added e of Instagram content. And with (as in 365 days) music that prevails and who in some way directs the editing.

It is also “funny” to note that, in these sex scenes, we never hear the protagonists and therefore we do not follow the evolution of the relationship. And by changing the sequences according to the musical rhythm, what is shown is inevitably disappointing. Difficult to care about to find some form of excitement there for the viewer. And the accumulation ends up tiring. Also because from a narrative point of view these scenes, the way they are shot and what they show, add nothing.
Nudity that does nothing
As evidenced by this passage in which Babi goes to Marco for the first time. First of all “intelligent”, the editing shows them in different positions and different rooms interspersing this with several arrivals from Babi. We understand that the days pass and the couple continues to live a torrid passion. Constant, until the last stage which sees Marco blindfold Babi. The pace slows down, a little oil to massage his sweetheart’s chest, and off we go again. A passage that could have happened 20 minutes earlier, or 20 minutes later, the effect would have been the same.

Since, the sex scenes are interchangeablethey could lengthen or shorten without it changing anything, and once again there is nothing attractive about them, because they are disembodied at all levels. That’s basically the whole paradox of 365 days AND Waiting to be betrayed. Having nothing interesting to offer in terms of plot and “clothed scenes”, they are sold the promise of being sulphurous. But in the end, these films will completely strip their actors and actresses, they don’t make you feel anything anymore. Or to put it simply, nothing to get excited about on Netflix.
