Planet of the Apes 4 : an eagerly awaited project

After five films released between 1968 and 1973, as well as a Tim Burton remake in 2001, The Planet of the Apes has become an excellent trilogy that began in 2011 with The origins of the planet of the apes. We then discovered a scientist who was looking for a cure for Alzheimer’s disease and who was carrying out tests on monkeys. From these experiences will be born Caesar, a chimpanzee who, thanks to the drug and the scientist’s training, will develop incredible intelligence and will even be able to speak. And while a pandemic hits humanity, Caesar and the apes will take refuge in nature.

Thereby, Planet of the Apes: The Showdown (2014) e Planet of the Apes: Supremacy (2017), monkeys have become the protagonists. The strength of these films is that they manage to move us in front of these animals which, in some respects, could be better than Man. The conclusion was beautiful, but Disney, after purchasing Fox, decided to return to this universe. Not with a reboot, but with a sequel: Planet of the Apes 4 (Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes in the VO).

So there’s no need to go back to basics. As we can see with trailer revealed (video in article)the film will take place many years later the events of the previous film. At the end of Supremacy, Caesar led his people to freedom before he died. We discover in these images that things have changed a lot since then, in particular with humans return to nature and enslaved. In the synopsis shared by Soonwe can read:

Some groups have never heard of Caesar, while others have distorted his teachings to build new empires. In this setting, an ape leader begins to enslave other groups to find human technology, while another ape, who has seen his clan being kidnapped, embarks on a journey to find freedom. A young human woman (Freya Allan) will be instrumental in his pursuit of her, even if she has other goals.

Visually, the digital effects to bring the monkeys to life are impressive. This was also a great quality of the trilogy. And we expected nothing less Planet of the Apes 4.

In the casting of this new film, we find Freya Allanrevealed by her role as Ciri in The witcheras well as Owen Teague (That) and Peter Macon (The Orville). Also featured are Kevin Durand, William H. Macy and Dichen Lachman. As for the production, we will see Wes Ball at work again after his trilogy The maze. We also find similarities in the settings, in this world where nature has claimed its rights.

Planet of the Apes 4 The theatrical release is scheduled for May 22, 2024.
