Lolita despite myself: Lindsay Lohan resumes her cult role

Lolita despite myself: a film that is too “far-fetched”

Published in 2005, Lolita despite myself (Bad Girls in the original version), a teen comedy that quickly achieved cult film status thanks to its sharp humor and memorable characters. Directed by Mark Waters and written by Tina Fey, the film starred Lindsay Lohan as Cady Heron, a naive high school student who finds herself thrust into the cutthroat world of social gangs after being raised in Africa by her zoologist parents. It is under these conditions that she discovers “the Plastics”, an ultra-popular girl group, led by Regina George (Rachel McAdams), who fascinates Cady.

Lindsay Lohan reprises her role

Nearly two decades later, Lindsay Lohan reprises her iconic role for a Walmart Black Friday ad campaign. In a nostalgic and marketing approach, Walmart has reunited the original cast membersincluding Amanda Seyfried and Lacey Chabert (who played Karen and Gretchen), to recreate the world of the film, but with a contemporary touch: the characters are now adults.

Karen has a teenage daughter, who has turned into a real Regina George, and has gathered around her a new group of “plastics”. They also perform the famous Christmas choreography to “Jingle Bell Rock.” Karen still has time (and still has a negative IQ), while for Cady, she is now a CPE in her old high school. And the three friends are still united. For connoisseurs of Lolita despite myself, you will notice various references to the cult scenes of the film in the advertising below:

The ad campaign, which debuted Wednesday — a nod to the day when movie “plastics” traditionally wear pink — aims to draw attention to Walmart’s special offers and low prices ahead of the late-night shopping frenzy year. A new commercial featuring a different cast member will air each week, accompanied by a social media post, in an effort to spark early interest in holiday shopping. Only Rachel McAdams is missing. It’s a shame, we would have liked to know what happened to this Regina George pest…

The actors themselves express their enthusiasm for this reunion. Daniel Franzese, who reprises his role as Damian, says fans will “I’m really excited to see each other after all these years“. Lindsay Lohan shares this sentiment, underlining the pleasure of reuniting with her former colleagues. “It was so nice to be together again after all these years. It was great catching up with everyone“, she says.

This advertising strategy is not new for Walmart, which had already used characters from cult films in its Black Friday advertising the previous year.
