Star of Golden eyethen sagas X-Men AND Taken, Dutch actress Famke Janssen has been more low-key in recent years, appearing in largely superfluous and limited-popular films and television series. It is therefore with pleasure and curiosity that we find her today in the Netflix thriller Locked insidewhich has everything to satisfy the subscribers of the streaming platform.
Locked inside literally opens from the point of view of Katherine Carter (Famke Janssen), lying in a hospital bed. She is quadriplegic, with a swollen face, she is the victim of “blocked syndrome“. That is, she is awake and conscious, but completely unable to communicate physically, except movements of his eyes. The nurse who takes care of her, Mackenzie (Anna Friel), will try to understand what happened to her. To do this she will talk to Lina, Katherine’s adopted daughter, who has become her daughter-in-law, and, using the letters of the alphabet and Katherine’s eye movements, she will try to make her “speak”.

Then a double narrative begins. First of all, the one in the present day, where Lina and Alex, the family doctor, are brought first care of Catherine. And the story of the past, where we discover Katherine’s life, former Hollywood starwith her son Jamie who married Lina, while they all live together in Katherine’s sumptuous English home.
We will not go into more detail about what this double story has in store, which will reveal a terrible drama. A drama where greed, betrayals and secret loves will push the characters towards the irreparable. Locked inside stands out for its twisted, convoluted plot, where almost every character seems to be playing a deadly double game. Even, as well, Locked insidedirected by Nour Wazzi and written by Rowan Joffé, it manages to fascinate with the diligent performances of its cast.

In addition to Famke Janssen, who fully assumes her role before and after the incident, the resolution of which represents the entire challenge of Locked inside-the actress Rose Williams, seen most notably in The power AND A dress for Mrs. Harris, offers very solid performance, full of problems and ambiguities. As for the male part of the cast, Jamie, Katherine’s son and Lina’s husband, is played by Finn Cole, a face well known to fans of Peaky Blinders. And it’s Alex Hassell, seen in particular in The boys AND His Dark Materialswho plays Doctor Lawrence, very present doctor of the Carter family.
