Cobra creator Kai explains how Netflix series continues to honor Karate Kid as the story continues to grow

cobra-kai began as a series based primarily on The child of karate Lore to tell a new story. Now that the Netflix show has Season 5 coming soon However, it’s fair to say that the acclaimed series has managed to create its own interesting characters and develop plots and doesn’t need to lean so heavily on the past. With that in mind, continuing to honor the classic film series and characters like Mr. Miyagi it may be more difficult than ever. And one of the show’s co-creators recently filed a question about an event.

Series co-creator Hayden Schlossberg was one of many television creators who took part variety One night in the writer’s room event, where he explained how the show continues to pay homage The child of karate like him cobra-kai the world is getting bigger. Schlossberg explained that while there are many new stories in the show’s universe, they haven’t lost sight of the fact that they always have to respect what came before:

It’s fun, you expand the universe. You have new characters and with new characters [a] new perspective, new backgrounds and this gives it the modern element. But we started with “Hey, remember the roots”. Bonsai grows and you can explore different types of characters in a TV series that you wouldn’t explore in a movie. But the roots are bullying, mentoring is about overcoming things, facing the past. It’s that gut feeling of feeling down and then someone gives you something. In this show there is karate, but in life there can be a million different things that change you and give you confidence. And so every season, every season, something crazy happens.

The success of Netflix could rapidly expand the universe launched by the 1980s film franchise but, as the writer and executive producer mentioned, the setting or “roots” of the film series are present at every stage of the process. The show always talks a lot about bullying, and at this point there has been more karate than perhaps even offered by the original films.

Hayden Schlossberg went on to explain how the cobra-kai specifically issue praise The child of karate it also adds to your story. While talking about what makes both the show and the movies great, Schlossberg discussed the universal appeal of the martial arts-focused franchise:

Get ‘Soul of the Valley Depends on Who Wins This Nunchucks Fight.’ But basically, that’s what made me fall in love with The Karate Kid, because it’s a classic. Meeting different cultures, people you wouldn’t expect to meet. [are] log in Every year we say: ‘Ok, let’s forget everything for a second and go back to The Karate Kid.’ Why do we like this? We are watching the movie again. And that’s why I think it worked globally, because these are universal stories. So we tried to focus on that, taking advantage of the different characters, genres, backgrounds and games to make The Karate Kid feel, but it’s something completely different.

Season 5 is coming for those who have it netflix subscriptions and the savage finale of season four will follow. I can’t imagine how the series will solve Terry Silver’s betrayal of John Kreese or how the results of the All-Valley Tournament will affect the main characters. But I’m still excited to see and wonder if an unexpected character from The child of karate continues to appear. However, whatever happens, it is clear that Hayden Schlossberg and his collaborators will continue to innovate without ever forgetting the past. And that’s something fans should be grateful for.

cobra-kai The fifth season will premiere on Netflix on Friday 9 September. We still have time to wait but luckily there is no shortage new shows on TV right now to keep people busy until then.
