Ridley Scott in front of historians
It’s been weeks since the promotion of Napoleon by Ridley Scott suggests an epic film, worthy of the disproportionate ambitions of the historical character. It must be said that, for this project, the filmmaker was able to benefit from important resources with 300 extras, a hundred hair pieces and at least 11 cameras to reconstruct some battles and film them as best as possible.
The director intends to offer a great show, telling the life of the French emperor realistically, while allowing voluntary deviations. Moreover, to those who aim factual errorslike the fact that Bonaparte never fired cannons on the pyramids, Ridley Scott did not hesitate to respond.
An impressive extract for Napoleon
What we like about Ridley Scott is his way of doing things combine historical facts and entertainment (as with Gladiator). The director knows very well when fiction must prevail and does not hide it. The test with an excerpt from the Battle of Austerlitzpresented by Sony Pictures (video on the first page of the article). An impressive sequence that sees Napoleon ambush an entire army on the ice. First by hiding part of his infantry, then by sending in the cavalry, then by taking out his cannons. A breathtaking epic sequence that wouldn’t be that close to reality.
But as an Internet user on E we have to admit that it makes us laugh a lot.
Napoleon by Ridley Scott, starring Joaquin Phoenix, Vanessa Kirby and Tahar Rahim, will be released in theaters on November 22, 2023.
