The Killer: the new Fincher has arrived
Three years later MankDavid Fincher collaborates again with Netflix for his new film, The killer. The thriller adapted from the French comic The killer has been available on the platform since November 10th and has risen straight to the top of the list of films most watched by subscribers. As the name suggests, the film follows the journey of a hitman, cold and methodical, which leaves no room for chance in carrying out its missions. Until one of them goes wrong and faces retaliation. He then embarks on a violent expedition to eliminate his enemies and resume the course of his life (even if the ending is questionable).
If Michael Fassbender is imperial in the role of this nihilistic killer, David Fincher first thought of Brad Pitt, his long-time collaborator, to play the character. But the latter refused.
The Killer: Brad Pitt turned down the role
After Seven, Fight club AND Beniamino Bottone, The killer it could therefore have marked the third collaboration between David Fincher and Brad Pitt. The director, in fact, declared that when he started working on the film in 2008, he immediately thought of Brad Pitt to play the protagonist. But the latter rejected the proposal. Years later, he contacted Michael Fassbender. In an interview given to Rolling StoneDavid Fincher confided:
I initially thought of Brad in 2008. But his response was, “Hey, a little too nihilistic for me.” Okay, so who? We needed someone who embraced that aspect of the character. Then, a dozen years later (…) I thought of Michael Fassbender. I sent him the script with a note ‘I’d like to send it to you to read, I don’t know what your life is like now, I know you run…’ And a few hours later he called me back and told me he was ready.
