ThanksgivingEli Roth’s best film?

In 2007, for their double program GrindhouseQuentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez had invited some of their friends to direct several fake trailersscreened among their films Avenue of Death AND Planetary terror. So when Edgar Wright made a fake trailer for a movie called OF WHICHRob Zombie had offered him images of Werewolf Women of the SS – a title that is already a good program -. Then Jason Eisener took care of the trailer Hobo with a rifleRobert Rodriguez from that of Macheteand finally Eli Roth composed an ultra-gory trailer for a fake titled slasher Thanksgiving.

Since these fake trailers, three true feature films were produced : Machete In 2010, Hobo with a rifle in 2011 and, more recently, Thanksgiving by Eli Roth.

Thanksgiving by Eli Roth is a very violent slasher (trailer – the truth – at the head of the article) and completely uninhibited. It is expected in French cinemas on November 29, 2023. The date of the annual Thanksgiving holiday in the United States is November 23, so it has already been brought forward there. It comes out nationwide this Friday November 17. And, for the moment, the reviews collected by the site Rotten tomatoes I am freewith a tomatometer a 86% !

“A bloody feast to savour”

To make a good slasher, it’s best to start with a simple scenario. Thanksgiving do not deviate from this rule: One year after Black Friday turned into chaos, a mysterious killer takes inspiration from the traditional Thanksgiving holiday and terrorizes the residents of Plymouth, Massachusetts, the birthplace of the famous holiday..

With these simple premises and with a great cast composed in particular of Patrick Dempsey, Gina Gershon, Addison Rae, Nell Verlaque, Milo Manheim and Rick Hoffman, Eli Roth seems to have succeeded. The director, obsessed with the horror genre in which he has invested with films of very casual quality, has started well Cabin fever in 2002 and Hostel in 2006. Perhaps experiencing a growing lack of inspiration since then, it would still seem so Thanksgiving marks Eli Roth’s return to higher standards.

This is how Alison Foreman was born written for IndieWire :

Served hot, Eli Roth’s “Thanksgiving” is so good, it’ll lick your fingers… or someone else’s.”

From the part of New York TimesRoth’s mastery of horror is highlighted:

The fact is that Eli Roth knows his stuff and is very willing to successfully deliver gory moments as well as scary moments.

Positive reviews of Thanksgiving thus they multiply, in the most recommendable publications.

Critics who make you want to discover the film and form your own opinion. And of course, to shiver as much as possible. An appointment is then made on November 29release date in French cinemas Thanksgiving.
