American critics are convinced

With to date a tomato meter 71% on rotten tomatoescompiling 21 reviews, Silent night sign a very convincing return by the director of Mission: Impossible 2 to business. Thereby, for Peter Debruge of Variety, Silent night should be placed in the category of excellent “bloody” Christmas films:

As simplistic as it may seem, “Silent Night” gives audiences a good reason to get excited about the Hong Kong innovator again, ranking among the few “anti-Christmas films” since “Die Hard” that are worth revisiting again and again .

From the part of The Hollywood journalistFrank Scheck is also very convinced of this:

Thanks to John Woo and his screenwriter Robert Lynn, and also thanks to Joel Kinnaman’s intense and ferociously imposing physical performance, the absence of dialogue is not a gimmick but an advantage.

For Tilted magazinesame story:

“Silent Night” is as much a revenge thriller as it is an insightful look at how the “voiceless,” with their backs against the wall, do everything they can, and by all means, to make themselves heard.

However, some journalists showed themselves disappointedin particular a IGN Movies :

A dull experiment in revenge that quickly turns shaky, “Silent Night” offers none of the charm or visual elegance that made John Woo one of Hollywood and Hong Kong’s greatest action stylists.

In the same vein, Mashable write : ““Silent Night” takes its premise too seriously. And not even the carnage offered by John Woo can overcome the boredom generated by the clichés of this film.”

A late arrival in France (and on VOD…)

Despite some negative opinions, most opinions on Silent night tends to consider John Woo’s return a success. However, we will have to wait to discover it in France, as it is only visible from above February 29, 2024and unfortunately not on the big screen but in VOD, DVD or Blu-Ray. However, we hope that his next film, remake of his 1989 classic The killerwith Omar Sy in the title role, it will make a good impression at the cinema.
