After Little big lies AND The ruinDavid E. Kelley proposed another creation for HBO Max: Loving death. In this miniseries, Elizabeth Olsen (Scarlet Witch in the MCU) plays Candy, a housewife in a small Texas town in the late 1970s. He believes he has fulfilled his role by taking care of his children and managing his home. But despite this, he still awaits “his reward”. Because she is deeply bored by her and her husband Pat I would like a little more excitement.

Something clicked during a volleyball game with members of his church. Pushed by Allan, she suddenly feels an attraction to him and she doesn’t take long offer him an adventure. Loving death is based on a true tragedy,‘a news which took place in Wylie, Texas, and saw Candy Montgomery being accused of the murder of Betty Gore, his lover’s wife. An extremely violent murder as it involved none other than 41 ax blows, of which 23 to the face! Betty Gore’s body was found by her neighbors on June 13, 1980, with her daughter Bethany in the next room, crying in her crib.

An investigation was immediately launched and the first suspect was her husband, Allan. But the latter was not in the city at the time of the accident. The hypothesis that he was the murderer was therefore immediately excluded. On the other hand, after confessed to having an extramarital affair with Candy Montgomery, the police were quick to arrest the stay-at-home mom.

She was then recognized not guilty and acquitted on 30 October 1980.

Aged 30 at the time of the events, Candy Montgomery was supported by her husband, Pat. After the trial, they moved to Georgia before divorcing four years later. The woman then continued his life while I was working in the healthcare field.

His story first inspired the TV movie A murder in a small town (1990) before Jessica Biel played her in the series Candy (2022), available on Disney+. Elizabeth Olsen then played Candy Monthery for Loving deathbroadcast in France on Canal+ from 30 November 2023.
