Shannen Doherty, from Barrados no Baile, says cancer has spread to her bones

The actress was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015 and has since undergone mastectomy, chemotherapy and radiotherapy.

Shannen Dohertybest known for having lived Brenda Walshone of the protagonists of Barred at the Dance(1990-2000), revealed that her breast cancer, diagnosed in 2015, had spread to her bones. In an interview with the magazine Peoplethe actress also reinforced her wishes for the future.

“I don’t want to die. (…) I’m not finished living. I’m not finished loving. I’m not finished creating. I’m not finished waiting for things to change for the better… I’m not finished yet”declared the actress.

Since being diagnosed with the disease, Doherty, who was also successful on the series Charmed (1998-2006), treated cancer with mastectomy, chemotherapy and radiotherapy. In April 2017, she revealed that she had gone into remission, but the cancer returned two years later.

In June this year, Doherty said on her social media that the cancer had spread to her brain and she had undergone surgery to remove the tumor. Now, the actress has stated that the disease has spread to her bones and she is in stage 4, which is considered terminal.

However, instead of surrendering, Doherty decided to invest in fundraising to find a cure for the disease: “When you ask yourself, ‘Why me? Why did I get cancer?’. And then, ‘Why did my cancer come back? Why am I at stage 4?’ This makes you start looking at the great purposes in life.”he declared. “It’s insane to me that there isn’t a cure yet.”he added.

Currently, the actress is fighting to participate in clinical trials to develop treatments for her type of cancer, but what she wants most is to be able to go back to work, despite her diagnosis:

“People assume that [ter câncer] It means you can’t walk, you can’t eat, you can’t work. They put you aside very early: ‘You’re finished, you’re retired’. And we’re not”he stated.

“We are vibrant and have a very different outlook on life. We are people who want to work, embrace life and move forward”still said Doherty.

Finally, the actress reiterated her “best memories are yet to come”: “I pray. I wake up and go to bed thanking God, praying for the things that are important to me, without asking for much. This connects me to a higher power and to spirituality. My faith is my mantra”he said.
