Dune 2 more “muscular”

Self Dune 2 it is the direct continuation of Dunehowever, there is an important change that Denis Villeneuve wanted to underline in an upcoming interview for Total Film. In fact, the Quebec director explained that this film was more “muscle“.

The first film was more meditative, more contemplative. We followed a young man who discovered a new planet, a new culture. This second film… is more of an action film than the first part. He’s more muscular.

More muscular and even more spectacular? This is what Denis Villeneuve suggests, explaining that it is for this reason that with Greig Fraser, the film’s director of photography, Dune 2 it was shot entirely in IMAX format. Certainly not a whim but rather a necessity, especially to be able to stage convincingly the moment Paul rides a huge sandworm. In this regard the director declares that “it was by far one of the most technically complex scenes I’ve had to shoot in my career“.

Denis Villeneuve and his teams seem to have pushed the sliders to the max, with the idea of doing even better than what Dune. The promise is beautiful and the challenge immense, ever since Dune was a critical and commercial success upon its release, and was rewarded with a shower of awards, including 6 Oscars in 2022 : Best Visual Effects, Best Film Music, Best Cinematography, Best Editing, Best Production Design and Best Sound Mixing.
